The 2002 Chevrolet Malibu useS4.5 quarts of SAE 5W-30 oil for the 3.1L V6 engine. Chevrolet recommends that You use synthetic oil whenever You need to change it for better wear protection. Synthetic oil is a newer type of oil that is engineered to have better lubrication properties and designed to last longer than standard conventional oil. This means that You should only need to change synthetic every 7,500 miles compared to every 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. I recommend that You check Your oil at least once a month. During this check You will want to make sure that Your oil is full and that it is also free from any debris or signs of burning that could harm Your engine.
