All models of the 2000 to 2005 Toyota Echo have A4Cylinder engine which comes equipped with a timing chain rather than a belt. The good part about it being a chain is that You don't really have to worry about any specific maintenance to keep it working. It's a sturdy part that's made to last for the entire life of Your engine. The best thing You can to do make sure it does last that long is stay on top of Your regular oil changes. If You get low on oil the chain can dry up and the friction with other components can cause breaks in the chain. This can damage Your engine and it's an expensive part to replace. -
