If You've got a 2006 Volkswagen Touareg with a V6 engine then it will have a timing chain but if You've got the V8 engine then it will have a timing belt. What this means for people with a timing belt is that You'll have to keep it in mind for maintenance and it should be replaced every 80,000 miles or so. Over time they tend to dry out and stretch which will lead to them breaking sooner or later. The timing chain however is sturdy and is built to last for years. You just need to stay on top of Your oil changes so the chain can stay properly lubricated or else it can dry out and get damaged. -
