The 2010 Volvo XC70 comes equipped with a timing chain rather than a timing belt. Since it uses a timing chain, it usually will not need to be replaced unlike the belt which needs to get replaced every 60,000 to 100,000 miles or so. The only reason why it the chain needs to be replaced is because of total failure but that doesn't happen too often. The reason why belts need to be replaced and chains don't is because that the belt is outside of the engine and is exposed and the chain is in the engine and not as exposed and gets help with lubrication from engine oil. I think it is a pretty smart decision to use the chain rather than the belt because it will save You from the hassle of getting it replaced.
