The 2016 Nissan Sentra comes with a timing chain and not a timing belt. As with most newer vehicles, the timing chain is the preferred option. Unlike the belts, it is less prone to wear and tear. It is a durable option and as a result, it will last for the lifespan of the vehicle without needing replacement, in most cases. It does not need routine servicing either. As long as the engine is well lubricated and maintained, it generally performs well. The timing chain can be replaced, but that is only necessary in rare or extreme cases of damage to the car. Most manufacturers are moving away from the belts now, and pretty soon, they will be a thing of the past.
