Yes, the 2017 Ford Explorer has a cabin air filter. The cabin air filter is located under the hood of the car, near the front of the vehicle. The filter will be a white square of filter paper, surrounded by an orange or red cover, and may or may not be really d***y. The filter is responsible for making sure pollen and dirt do not make it into the climate control system, which makes it so the vents do not spray dirt and grime at Your when You turn them on. The filter is something that You have to change out according to the maintenance schedule, though if You take the car in to be tuned up then they will take care of it. Filters are pretty cheap, around 50 to 70 dollars, and they simply pop in and out, so it is easy to fix them.

Most vehicles have some kind of filter that the outside air comes through before going into the passenger compartment. This prevents contaminants like dirt and dust from entering the cabin. Some cabin air filters can be replaced but, others cannot. The Explorer has a replaceable cabin air filter as standard equipment across all trim levels. When the cabin starts to have a musty odor, it is time to change the filter. The filter can be found behind the glovebox.

Wow do these people have this so wrong!... There is a filter under the hood...that is a filter for the ENGINE....it filters out debris before air is sucked into the combustion chamber...this filter has NOTHING to do with the air in the cabin/inside of vehicle. There is ALSO a cabin filter..however the CABIN filter is located...in the cabin! It is behind the glove box...easiest to get to if you remove the glove box door...this filter removes debris from the air before blowing through the ducts after which you breathe .... Standard just remove debris...however you could purchase a charcoal filter which actually has some purifying effects...
