The 2017 Hyundai Sonata comes standard equipped with a timing chain, rather than the less appealing timing belt. The issue with belts is that they are more fragile, which will result in regular inspections and changes. In the case of a timing chain, however, it should last for the lifetime of Your vehicle. This is estimated to be around 10 to 15 years, or 150 to 175,000 miles. As such, if the chain becomes worn or broken, it will be covered by Hyundai warranty for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. If You do need to pay for the replacement, it will cost between $120 and $340 for parts alone.
