The 2018 Toyota Tacoma does come equipped with a timing chain. Since it uses a timing chain it usually doesn't have to be replaced unlike the timing belt which has to be replaced every so often. The reason why it shouldn't need to be replaced is because it's meant to last for the life of the vehicle since it is inside the engine and gets help from engine oil whereas the belt is outside of the engine and is exposed. The belt should be changed every 60,000 to 100,000 miles but since the Tacoma uses the chain You just need to inspect it about every 150,000 miles. To inspect it You just remove the valve cover and look at the sprockets and check the tension.

The 2018 Toyota Tacoma comes with a timing chain and not a timing belt. This is to ensure that you don't have to replace the belt as a timing chain is meant to last for the life of your vehicles engine.
