The Chrysler Pacifica has a 3.6 L V6 engine that uses a timing chain instead of a timing belt. One good reason for using a timing chain instead of a timing belt is that it usually doesn't need to be replaced. However there are some unusual instances where it will need to be replaced such as it becoming loose or for some reason becoming too worn. The reason why the belt needs to be replaced every so often is because it is exposed to things with it being on the outside of the engine and with the chain it is on the inside and isn't as exposed. The belt usually needs changed every 60,000 to 100,000 miles however it is unknown when to change the chain if it does need to be changed.
