If You suspect that Your Ford F-350 is having problems with the alternator, and You've already ruled out the battery being bad (that is, You're sure it's takeng a charge), then the next thing to do is check the wire connection between the battery and the thick wire on the alternator. Clean off any corrosion on the battery side (on its terminals). Does the voltage coming from the alternator measure 13.5v to 14v when You check it with a multiMeter If so, Your problem's likely with another component and not the alternator. If not, though, it's possible that the power regulator within the alternator is failing. You're going to likely need to replace the whole unit, though You can often find a deal from a junkyard or eBay, getting it much cheaper than You would new.

The ford f-350 alternator does not seem to hold a charge according to some owners. It is notorious for running the battery down, thus not providing enough power to even start the car.
