The most common problem with the torque converter in a Ford Focus will result in the vehicle slipping when it is shifting between gears. The torque converter is there to transfer the power from the engine through to the transmission as it is a fluid coupling that allows the two to work together. Another common problem with a torque converter in a Focus is they can overheat over time. It is a component that is rotating and gets a lot of force put on it so it is possible for it to overheat and not work properly. When this happens usually you will feel like the vehicle is shuddering as it tries to accelerate and drive away.

The most common symptoms of a torque converter problem on ford focuses are slipping when shifting gears, overheating, shuddering at semi high speeds, contaminated transmission fluid and clunking sounds.
