The Ford Focus' XR5's turbo may experience a ruptured PCV diaphragm inside the oil filter housing. This issue is common to the XR5 and symptoms include excessive crankcase pressure that emits a high pitched whining noise, a lack of boost pressure, high oil pressure at idle speeds and excessive oil consumption. Owners will witness an illuminated "check engine" light and blue smoke from the exhaust as well. Under these conditions the filter housing needs to be replaced. The 2.5 liter engine suffers from cracked cylinder liners. The failure causes rough idle, mIS Fires, coolant leaks and white smoke from the exhaust, and the turbo is vulnerable to solenoid boost valve failure as well as coolant loss from the turbo's return lines.
