There are no known issues surrounding the Ford Ranger inertia switch. But what is an inertia switch and what does it do You may be wondering. Well one of the most widespread consumer applications for inertia switches is in vehicle fuel systems. There they shut off the fuel pump if the vehicle is in a collision, thus MINImizing any fuel leakage and fire hazard. Now You may also be wondering if an inertia switch can go bad. While it's rare for the inertia switch to fail it's possible. If You were just replacing the fuel pump because it was bad the inertia switch should not be a factor unless You were in a wreck hit a pot hole or got bumped hard by another vehicle and that tripped it.

There seems to be a common issue with ford ranger inertia switches on the fuel pump, causing the vehicle to stall.
