Owners of the 3.2 liter Diesel Ford Transit have complained of excessive coolant loss that can cause overheating at less than 20,000 miles. Often leaks are difficult to diagnose but result in regular loss of coolant after driving long distances, sometimes up to 3 quarts or more. The issue stems from an NHTSA recall #10171949 that details a faulty EGR cooler that requires replacement. The bulletin affects 2015-2019 Transit “ 3.2L Diesel engines that will demonstrate coolant loss with no external signs of antifreeze leaks. The EGR cooler is replaced with part number CK4Z-9U433-B to correct leaks and overheating issues. Transit owners should be able to visit their local Ford dealership to have the repair done at no charge.

If your ford transit is overheating it may be because of a coolant leak, radiator fan or thermostat malfunction. Most commonly, a failing radiator can cause a car to overheat.
