The Ford Transit Connect's relationship with brake pads and ABS braking systems is a complicated and sometimes problematic one. As a work van, the Transit has replaced conventional trucks and its considerably lighter and more straightforward maintenance makes it simpler to take care of. However, its Electronic Brake Distribution software was part of recall # 11-7-14 in 2011 because factory installed calibrations failed to work with the Transit's new non-asbestos organic (NAO) pads. Drivers found both their front and rear brakes and shoes wore out prematurely due to faulty brake calibrations and cheaper OEM pads that caused the EBD to become disabled and increase operating wear on the ABS braking functions of the Connect.
