The Mazda2 i-4 motor does come equipped with a timing chain for the gasoline engine and a cambelt for the 1.4 Liter diesel engine. The timing chain is great because the it is made to last the life of the vehicle and the timing belt will need to be changed every 60,000 miles. The timing chain however does not come without issues but does have a lower chance for needing a replacement. Over time the timing chain can become warped and stretched from the heat of the engine in some cases and will need to be replaced. If this were to happen You can take it to a mechanic or dealership to get the service done for approximately $400 - $500.
