No matter which year Your Mazda CX5 is or which engine You've got You'll have a timing chain. The CX5 has never used a timing belt in any of their models. The good part about that is if You're lucky You will never need to service the chain like You would with a belt. Change Your oil at every 5,000 or 7,500 miles depending on the type of oil that You use and You'll typically have no issues with the timing chain. Damage to it is usually done when it is allowed to get dry and then the friction with other parts leads to issues. It's definitely something You want to avoid because a new timing chain is going to cost a significant amount. -
