An important consideration when shopping for a vehicle that will be driven, at times, in treacherous conditions is the wheel drive configuration. The ever-popular Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has usually been offered with either a rear 2WD or 4WD configuration. Beginning in 2019, production began on A4x4 all-wheel drive model. A configuration for front-wheel drive also became available in the same year. You'll probably often recognize these vans as the preferred choice for Amazon delivery fleets. Due to their versatility and efficiency, they are able to zip in and out of city streets while maintaining a high fuel economy. The front-wheel drive option has been promoted by the car maker as an entry-level vehicle. In more temperate climates, this version might be ideal.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 with a standard 144" roof has the option of being Passenger, Crew or Cargo van. The drivetrain for any of these variations can be either rear wheel or four wheel drive. The Cargo 2500 can also come in a "worker" trim style with either a standard 144" or high 170" roof that is only rear wheel drive. The 2500 Sprinter Cargo and 2500 Sprinter Cargo Extended also comes with a high roof 170" in rear wheel or four wheel drive. Like many of their other models, the Sprinter Cargo 3500XD standard roof 144", the Sprinter Cargo 3500XD high roof 170" and the Sprinter Cargo 3500XD high roof 170" Extended, have the option of being either rear wheel drive or four wheel drive vehicles. The 3500 Cargo and Cargo Extended have 170" high roof and can have rear wheel or four wheel drive. Finally, the Mercedes 3500 Cargo van with a standard 144" roof is another Mercedes-Benz Sprinter model that comes in rear wheel or four wheel drive.
