As the driver of a Chevrolet Express Van, You will find Yourself needing to check the transmission fluid levels from time to time. This should be done every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever occurs first. The firSTStep You will need to take is to to to the front of Your vehicle. Next, open the hood. Employ the long arm on the side of the engine bay, and use it to prop open the hood securely. Look to the passenger side of the compartment, to the left of the battery and engine block. There You will find the transmission. Attached to the side of the transmission is a reservoir with a dipstick on top. Remove the dipstick, and check the fluid level.

To check the transmission fluid in a chevy express open the hood. Remove dipstick. Check level. Insert dipstick and pull it out to determine level. Add fluid. Determine correct fluid type and add fluid. Replace dipstick.

People are asking WHERE the dipstick is… being multi engines on these vans (V6, 2 different V8’s and a diesel) they are NOT all in the same place. On my Vans, all V6’s (newer vans, 4.3 there s NO dipstick. You actually have to check under the van by pulling the “level check plug”. (Located on tranny pan) Pull fluid plug (located on top of tranny pan) fill (if needed) turn on vehicle, go thru gears, giving each gear 2/3 seconds (including manual gears on automatic tranny). Open fluid level check plug, when comes to a slow, but steady trickle, you are full. Its intimidating if your not very mechanical, so if not comfortable, let your mechanic do it.
