To reset the engine management light, otherwise known as the engine control light reset, on the BMW 1 Series, You will either need to reset the battery by separating the positive and negative cables from the battery for approximately 10 minutes. Make sure You correct all the issues that make the inspection light glow before You clear the message or it will come back. You can even reset the OBD scanner by attaching it to the car and clearing it with it. The cost of an OBD scanner ranges from $50-$100 based on the brand and standard. If You don't want to buy one, You can normally borrow one from the Car Parts Store for a small fee.

To reset the check engine light on the BMW 1 you will need to either reset the battery by removing the positive and negative cables, or connect an OBD scanner and do it through there.
