If You've got a Malfunction Indication Light (MIL) or other service reminder on Your BMW F10, You can gently reset the engine control unit (ECU) without too much hassle. Note, of course, that the nuclear option is simply to disconnect Your car battery for around 10 minutes... But that's way harder than what we're going to do. Hop into Your BMW and close the door. Then, turn on the ignition. Press down and keep pressed Your trip reset button until You see the service icon appear. You can release the button when You see this on the screen. Then, press it a second time and keep it pressed until You see "RESET" on the display. Release it, and press once more --- and done! Your ECU should now be reset. Obviously, if there actually is a fault, You're going to see the MIL turn back on, in which case, You can do this procedure once more and keep putting off addressing what's causing the problem in the first place.
