If Your BMW X5 has gone into limp mode it is usually caused by a problem that Your ECU has detected with Your engine or Your transmission. Usually You will have a check engine light that is on at the dash as well. I recommend that You get off the road as soon as possible to prevent more damage to Your vehicle. Once You have stopped and are parked somewhere safely You can use an OBD II scan tool to read the code that was thrown that put it in limp mode. You will need to determine if there are any damaged parts related to the problem, or if everything is okay. If everything is okay You can use the scan tool to clear the code and that will take it out of limp mode. If You do not fix the physical problem though it will throw the vehicle into limp mode again until it is repaired.
