You can use an OBD-II scan tool or mobile app with dongle to manually reset the Volkswagen Passat brake pad warning light --- but it'll just come on again if You don't fix the underlying symptom. The correct fix is to change the front brake pads: When You do this, the light should go off. (There are no sensors in the rear wheels.) I'm going to assume You've done that, and are baffled why it's not. The most common cause here is that a wire was shorted, if it's a mechanical failure. It could, however, just be the code really does just need to be cleared. If You haven't got a scan tool or similar, here's what You can do. Unhook both battery cables from the battery and leave them off for at least 5 minutes. Then, touch them together for about a second --- this'll discharge the capacitor that stores that code. Reconnect the battery, start Your Passat, and see if the warning light has cleared.

Replace the brake pads, then unhook both battery cables from the battery and leave them off for at least 5 minutes. Then, touch the ends of both battery cables together for about a second --- this'll discharge the capacitor that stores that code. Then put the cables back onto the battery
