A loose bearing can make for bad stops. The brakes can lock up, which will result in wrecks. Screeching sounds can arise from low brake fluid. Bad brake pads will result in problems with the vehicle coming to a halt. Premature brake wear is an issues that needs to be addressed. Brake equipment will become old and will need to be replaced at some point. The brake pads and shoes need replacing every 50,000 miles. The brake rotors need to be changed every 60,000 miles. The brake fluid needs to be changed every 20,000 to 45,000 miles.

Start by pushing the emergency brake pedal as far as you can to the floor. Put wheel chocks behind the front wheels, and then jack the rear wheels up. Locate the cable rod, it should be underneath the truck in the middle. Tighten it with pliers by rotating it 6 turns. Set the cable tension gauge to 350 pounds, and attach it to the rear tension cable. Press on the parking brake to release it, and make sure that the wheels spin forward and backwards. Adjust the equalizer nut, using the pliers, and then lower the vehicle.
