The Nissan Altima key fob is not rechargeable but uses a battery and when it does not have a charge You will need to replace the battery. The key fob has an electronic chip that works as a transmitter and it will transmit the signal when You press the button to open the door. To change the battery for the key follow these directions here. You will start by removing the hidden key from Your key fob. Next You will remove the key housing and pull out the old battery, but remember its position within the housing. Then, pop in the new battery and make sure the negative side of the battery faces You in the same position as before. Now You can snap the parts of the key back together and check to see if its working.

To recharge your Nissan Altima key, open your keyfob with a small flat-headed device or screwdriver inserted in between the battery plate and the keyfob, remove dead battery and replace with new battery.
