To get started with resetting the maintenance required light on Your 2003 Toyota 4Runner You'll first need to put the key in to the ignition and move it in to the ON position. Next move over to the trip display and move it in to ODO mode and then turn the ignition switch back off. Press the trip meter's reset button on the turn the ignition back on again. Your light should be cleared and You'll be ready to go on Your way. You may need to reset Your maintenance light if You find Yourself in a situation where You've preformed the maintenance such as an oil change but the light is still on. If You haven't taken care of what Your vehicle needs You should wait until You do before You reset this light

The check engine or maintenance light on the 2003 Toyota 4Runner is a catch all that is designed to alert you to an issue with the vehicle. It gets turned on when the computer in the vehicle detects an error on the vehicle and stores a trouble code. You can read that code with an obd scanner and this will tell you what the issues is. Common issues can include a loose gas cap, the engine misfiring, d***y spark plugs, vacuum leaks, low oil pressure, and nearly anything else. The light can also come on to remind you to get the vehicle serviced if you are nearing a mile stone. The check engine light is not often a major issue, but it should not be ignored either. To reset it you will need to fix whatever has set it off.
