Daytime running lights are engineered as both an accessory and safety feature of the Nissan Maxima. They provide visibility to other drivers when Your driving and add a distinctive flair to the Maxima's design. DRL lights are meant to stay on until sensors detect the need for headlights. To turn them off or disable their automatic operation, set the parking brake. There is no button, however, to switch the DRL's permanently off. Some have had luck pulling the 10 amp associated fuse located in the Maxima's engine bay. To turn on the high beams, headlights and fog lamps, use the control stalk to the left of the steering wheel. Selecting the "auto" option will enable the headlights without driver input. Keep top of the dash on the passenger side free of debris. This is where the exterior light sensors are located.
