The passenger airbag in a MINI Cooper is something that will turn on and off automatically depending on sensors that are located in the seat and in the seat belt. These sensors determine if someone is sitting there, and also the person's weight. If Your passenger is sitting in the seat and they are too light then the airbag off light will turn on at the dash. This is done to help prevent injury in the event that the airbag goes off in an accident. Airbags can save lives but they can also be too strong for children and could hurt them. Rather than have a switch MINI has decided that it's best to just use a weight sensor to determine if a child is in the seat or not.
