If Your Toyota Highlander has excessive noise coming from the rear suspension that is usually a sign of a problem with Your shocks or struts. Your shocks should be replaced about every 60,000 miles in Your SUV, and may need to be done more frequently if You take it down rough roads or through the dirt. There is also a chance that there could be a problem with one of the control arms. These are what Your wheel hubs are bolted to and if they get out of alignment or damaged they can make excessive noise while You drive. I recommend having the suspension inspected by a professional to see if they can find any problems.

In the toyota highlander there will be a cracking or banging noise from the rear suspension while going over bumps when the rear sway bar ties are bad
