The most widely known issue with the backup camera in a Ford Explorer applies to the 2020 model which has an active recall from Ford. The reason for the recall is that on certain models the display screen will go blank while in use which can lead to dangerous driving conditions. The cause of the malfunction is a poor electrical connection according to Ford. If You are having problems and Your vehicle is not included in the recall there are a couple things to check before You have the dealership look at it. The first thing to check is the fuses, make sure You do not have any blown fuses in the internal panel. Check them all, not just the one labeled for backup camera. The other thing to check is that the camera itself has not been damaged or removed from the back of the vehicle.

Owners of the Ford Explorer complain of rear camera malfunction, including a sudden loss of picture. Check your wiring and attempt of reset of the vehicle's software to correct the issue.
