The Ford Ranger's intercooler is an integral part of its turbo power and is responsible for "cooling" the hot compressed air created by the turbo for increased engine boost. A very common problem with this system is intercooler hose leaks. Leaks and cracks can form in the Ranger's hose from pressure generated from the high boost of the turbo. Signs the pipe may have split or cracked include excessive smoke from the exhaust, elevated engine temperatures and the activation of limp mode. Limp mode will disable a vehicle's speed and acceleration in an attempt to protect the truck's transmission. When scanned the Ranger may throw a P00BD code because the MAF sensor has detected data that is out of range of normal air flow operation. Cost to repair the intercooler hose ranges from $440-$500 in parts and labor.
