The GMC sierra antenna can have a couple of common issues. The antenna could rust, which will make it hard to put up and down. It will work just fine this way, but it will be a pain to move. It can also snap off, which will obviously make it non-functional. If this happens then You will need to remove the base of the antenna. Once You disconnect the wire You can connect it to the new one and then install the base. Now You should have a new working antenna, but You should still test the radio to make sure it is working.
