The 2008 GMC Sierra along with other GMC and Chevrolet trucks have had ignition switch issues where intermittent warning lights will show on the dashboard. Other times the failing switch causes the truck to stall and/or not start at all. This problem will usually be paired with the OBD code P1682 for which the definition states "Ignition 1 Switch Circuit 2". Outside of failure of the switch itself, the issue can be caused by an open or shorted harness, poor electrical connection, or a faulty engine control module. An ignition switch can be replaced relatively easily at home requiring a flat head screwdriver, 10mm socket, ratchet, socket extensions, and a pick. If You choose to have it replaced by a professional the estimated cost is $60 to $80 for parts and $90 to $110 for labor.
