What are some of the 2008 GMC Sierra ignition switch problems?

The 2008 GMC Sierra along with other GMC and Chevrolet trucks have had ignition switch issues where intermittent warning lights will show on the dashboard. Other times the failing switch causes the truck to stall and/or not start at all. This problem will usually be paired with the OBD code P1682 for which the definition states "Ignition 1 Switch Circuit 2".
