There are a few different types of problems reported concerning the catalytic converter in the 2014 Chevy Cruze. The most common, and easiest to fix, is a bad oxygen sensor. This will trigger a P0420 trouble code related to Your catalytic converter, but You won't actually see decreased performance because it's simply a sensor that needs replacing. The next most reported issue is an exhaust leak. This problem is more serious because depending on how severe the leak is, it can lead to damaged exhaust valves, improper EGR valve function, disturbance to the oxygen sensor, and complete catalytic converter failure. Another pretty big problem is a clogged system. Coolant, oil, and other foreign substances can get into the exhaust, if there are problems with the engine upstream. These contaminates can destroy the catalytic converter. This is likely the issue, if the engine is mIS Firing or the cat is overheating. If You have total catalytic converter failure and need to replace it, it will generally run $990 to $1,020 in this vehicle, including labor.
