The BMW 1 Series is plagued by early transmission problems, especially for 2011 models. Owners complain of needing the oil pan and shifter replaced and other numerous stalling and gear issues associated with the 7-speed automatic tranny. Failure typically happened at less than 30,000 miles and sometimes at just 10,000 miles. Several repairs involved replacing leaking O-rings and gaskets. Others were able to solve an erratic idle with a software update. Cracks in the shifter seals, clutch rattle and wiring harneSSReplacement reported as well. One TSB exists for the 8-speed shiftable automatic RWD transmission that included cleaning and clog removal. For the replacement of the BMW's transmission pan gaskets alone, costs range between $450-$500 in parts and labor when not under warranty.

For the bmw 1 series transmission problems include the transmission slipping when shifting, and shifting being difficult to do at all. This will make it so you need to replace or fix the transmission.
