The BMW X3 rear differential problems are a damaged wheel cylinder or a bad axle seal that needs to be replaced which could cause a leak. Some of the symptoms of a bad differential are difficulty steering, loud differential noise, Vibrations that are constant or increases while accelerating. It is a good idea to keep the service maintenance up on the differential which will require it to be done every 30,000 miles to 60,000 miles. The recommended differential lubricant for the rear axle iS75w-90 by the manufacturer and it can be any brand but the popular ones are Lucas 1 or Mobil lubricant. The cost for the oil will range for $5 - $10 per quart depending on the brand and quality.

If the BMW X3 is having rear end or rear differential noise then it is likely because the gears have become worn due to overloading and lubrication failure
