There are three very common dominant problems that can occur with the central locking system on Your FIAT 500. The system itself is quite simple: When You hit Your key FOB's button, the door luck sends a relay signal that activates the power door's lock actuator. This part, then, using a collection of gears, physically unlocks the door or doors You're targeting. So, the first and very cheap and easy thing to repair that can go wrong, is a blown fuse. If the relay's dead, You're not going to get any signal to the door lock actuator! The next thing that could be an issue with the central locking system are the power door lock switches themselves: if the rocker switch fails, when You press the button, no signal is sent. This button does become worn over time and may need replaced. The final issue You're likely to encounter is a malfunctioning lock actuator itself; the gears can become worn down from use, necessitating unlocking the vehicle manually until You can get it fixed.

My central locking stopped working after the car battery went flat. I searched online for an answer but all I could find was articles about changing blown fuses and door actuators. I could hear the central locking activating but it wouldn't hold in the lock position. This is what I did to rectify it - I placed the key of the fob into the drivers lock and turned the key clockwise whilst holding down the close button on the key fob - The central locking then worked.

Some potential central locking problems in a 2016 fiat 500 are due to misaligned door latch, blown fuse or faulty door lock actuator.
