Under the service campaign labeled 953, Hyundai recalled the Hyundai Sonata cars froM2011 to 2018. These cars include the 2.0L Turbo and 2.4L Turbo variants for software updates and issues related to the check engine light. The KSDS software of the Hyundai continuously monitored engine vibrations for unusual patterns that develop as an engine connecting rod bearing wears abnormally. That could later cause engine seizure. In case the vibrations caused by bearing wear start to occur, the malfunction indicator lamp will blink continuously, and the vehicle will be placed in a temporary engine protection mode with reduced power and acceleration. As a result, Hyundai extended the warranty of these cars to up to 120,000 miles or 10 years, covering the engine damages caused by these vibrations.

Our '13 SantaFe Sport has 1006,000 miles on it. Engine continues running and idling smoothly. Letter 953 came today, 3/22/21. Just drove back from Florida and could not be more pleased after having had it since 2013. Am concerned that recall or dealer might "screw up" this great car. D. Campbell, Utica, NY

The Hyundai Sonata 953 service campaign involves certain 2011-2018 Sonata vehicles that qualifies them for a free upgraded Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS).
