The Volkswagen Touareg has had several reports about its transmission, including developing cracks in its valve body. Some people have also reported that it revs noisily when trying to move from the third to the fourth gear. This happens along with a clunking sound. For some, there have been high temperatures being emanated from the gearbox. This causes discomfort and could be a safety hazard. This is a case of an overheating transmission. According to J.D Power, the Touareg has a reliability rating of 3.0 out of 5. So while it is mildly reliable, it is still ranked nearly at the bottom of itS-Class. Most of that poor ranking is due to issues like this transmission issue.
