There are a number of reasons why a check engine light comes on in a 2010 Honda CR-V. The most common one is a loose fuel cap. The cap prevents fumes from exiting the tank. If it's loose or damaged in some way, fumes escape and trigger the light. Usually, tightening or replacing the cap with a new one will fix this issue. A failed oxygen sensor is pretty common, as well. When one fails, the engine will keep running, but it burns more fuel and can end up damaging the catalytic converter and spark plugs, if left unaddressed. Speaking of spark plugs, if one or more is bad, this will trigger the check engine light. This includes the ignition coils, as well. Other less common reasons why the light might be on are issues with the catalytic converter, mass airflow sensor, vacuum, hoses, aftermarket alarm, or fuel injector.

A loose gas cap or low coolant is often to blame for a check engine light illuminating in a 2010 honda crv. It can also be related to the spark plugs, o2 sensors, a misfire, or emissions leak.
