If Your Chevy Cruze is making noise while idle it could be a great many things depending on what the noise is. If You hear a ticking sound then it could be heat coming off the motor, which is a normal sound to hear. It could also mean that You have low oil pressure, from either a bad pump or low oil. If it is rattling or shuddering then the engine is not getting enough air and You have a bad intake, a bad sensor, or a clogged line. Grinding is something with the transmission. If You suspect a problem You should take the car to a dealer and let them scan for a trouble code. This will tell You what is going wrong.

The tick in your chevy cruze engine might be usual depending on your engine design, or it might just be from normal wear from running your car. When high-pressure exhaust flows out of a crack in the manifold or a leak in the gasket it will sound like ticking or clicking particularly on idle or low engine rpms.
