Auto H in the BMW X5 stands for Auto Hold. What this feature does is sets and releases the brake which can be useful in situations such as stop-and-go traffic or when driving on an incline. The feature would stop the car from rolling back upon accelerating. To activate, simply press the button which is located in the center console. An indicator light will illuminate on the button itseLFAnd Auto H will show on the instrument panel. To deactivate You would just press the button again. If You are currently in an automatic hold You can press the brake pedal to deactivate it. The system should be deactivated whenever You are using a car wash as the parking brake will set due to the car being stationary. The system will auto activate if the engine is turned off, the driver's seat belt is not buckled and a door is open, or if the parking brake is active for certain period while driving (e.g., during a traffic jam).

The auto h button on the bmw x5 is for the auto hold feature that will keep the parking brake on as you release the brakes until you push the accelerator.
