Chevy Malibu owners complain of a "Shift to Park" error message displaying on the DIC or drivers information center after the vehicle has been placed into park and switched off. When activated the shift-to-park system will prevent drivers from turning off their interior lights and causes battery drain. The problem commonly affects 2016-2019 models of the Malibu. Chevy has issued two TSBs in relation to the malfunction, one requiring the replacement of the shifter and the other offering to clean the shifter's contacts and replace its wiring harness. Both repairs appear to solve the issue only temporarily. To check whether Your vehicle has been affected by these bulletins visit a local dealer with Your vehicle's VIN number and reference TSBs #19-NA-206 and #18-NA-297.
