When You open the hood of Your Ford Fiesta the switch triggers and activates the warning on the dash that says hood open. Once You close the hood the switch should indicate that the hood is closed. The sensor consists of a micro switch that opens and closes. If it says the hood is open verify that the hood is closed. It is a common problem to see a hood open message warning when the hood is closed because of a bad microswitch. In most cases, You will have to replace the whole hood latch to be able to replace the switch.

The ford fiesta hood open warning only comes on if the hood is opened. If the light comes on, pull over safely and check the hood to make sure it is closed all the way. Once the hood has been closed properly, the light should turn off.
