When equipped with one, the cabin air filter in the 2002 Mazda Protege should be changed once per year or every 20,000 miles, whichever comes first. In this vehicle, it is located behind the glove box on the passenger side of the cabin. Open the gloveboxAnd squeeze the sides gently to release the tabs holding it in place. Pull it gently towards You to remove the glovebox completely. This reveals a plastic cover over the air filter housing. Remove the cover, which should not require any tools, and then slide the old filter out towards You. Make a note of how it is positioned. Next, place the new filter in the same direction as the old one and slide it into place. Replace the cover and put the gloveboxBack the way it was.
