The 2019 Honda Civic's "adaptive cruise control" feature is part of a safety suite known as the "Honda Sensing" system which includes "lane keeping assist"; "collision mitigation braking" and "road departure mitigation" as well. However, it's been criticized for exposing drivers to more harm than help. Owners report the car not detecting visible objects in its pathway while using cruise control and actually causing rather than preventing an accident. This happens because the cameras and radar sensors used for detection can be damaged, d***y or faulty through exposure to the elements or worse, fail because the sun or daylight obstructs the sensor's operation. Complaints exist against lane assist too that also malfunctions when blinded by bright enough light. In short, these additions can both hinder and help drivers and the technology is not without major shortcomings.

How would I check to make sure the Honda sensing is activated?

If your 2019 honda civic's adaptive cruise control arm is not working it could be due to the fact that the radar sensors are obstructed, severe weather, speed conditions not met or honda sensing is not activated.
