The vacuum pump recall on the Chevy Cruze is caused by a problem with the electronic vacuum pump that is used on the braking system in the car. The electronic vacuum pump is there to provide You with additional braking support when You are trying to stop the car. The vacuum pump has a known problem of failing while You are braking and that can lead to a loss of brake feel and pressure. If You want to know if Your vehicle is involved in the recall You should contact a Chevrolet dealership with Your VIN to see if it is included. If Your car is included in the recall a Chevy dealership will change out the vacuum pump for You free of charge.

General motors (gm) recalls all 2011-2012 model year chevrolet cruze vehicles fitted with 1.4L dohc gasoline turbo engines and 6t40 front wheel drive automatic transmissions and equipped with an electric vacuum pump to provide additional brake assist vacuum where necessary. The pump may not work in the affected vehicles, resulting in an intermittent reduction or brake-assist failure.
