The Chevy S-10 dipstick can be found on the rear driver's side of the engine compartment. It will have a ring size handle on it and be in a tube that is coming out of the base of Your engine at the oil pan. The dipstick is used to inspect the oil in Your truck. You should make an effort to check this at least once a month. You will want to make sure that the vehicle is full of oil, and that the oil is free from signs of debris or burning. If Your engine oil is too low, or has debris or damage to it then it will not lubricate the components in Your engine properly. This can lead to permanent engine damage.
