The ECT button in the Toyota Avalon represents the electronically controlled transmission and pressing this button will activate and then deactivate it. Most of the time You can just ignore this feature but it can really come in handy while driving in snowy conditions. The ECT mode will start You off in second gear instead of first and it MINImizes the potential for Your wheels to slip. This feature can also give a boost to fuel efficiency as well as improving Your shifting quality thanks to a microcomputer that controls the timing between the lock-up switch and the gear shifting. Having said that You'll still likely find Yourself driving without ECT on for the majority of the time. -

The ect button in your toyota toggles the electronic controlled transmission on and off, and should be turned on while it is snowing out.
