The Ford Focus RS is equipped with AWD. Almost 50 percent of the vehicles sold in the US today employ either AWD or 4WD drivetrains these days. Both utilize all four wheels of the car to gain better traction and vehicular control while driving. The drivetrain allows the car to power all four wheels at the same time but is considered a "part-time" system, which means the engine's computer uses sensors to determine when it needs to shift from a front wheel drive focus only, to both rear and front power. Some vehicles primarily equipped for off-road use will employ a continuous AWD system that is technically never switched off. In both snow and traction stressed events, however, the Ford Focus RS will shift to all wheel drive power.
